כוה

כוי, כָּוָה, כָּוָא(b. h.; cmp. כהה) (to cause discoloring, to sear, cauterize; to scald. B. Kam.VIII, 1 כְּוָאוֹ בשפודוכ׳ if a person hurt another with a hot spit ; Y. ib. 6a, b (Mish. a. Gem.) כְּוָייוֹ, כְּוָויוֹ; a. e.Part. pass. כָּווּי burn-marked, flame-spotted. Lev. R. s. 15 חמורה … ונכוית ויצא בנה כ׳ a she-ass was sick and was cauterized, and her child was born with a flame-mark; (Num. R. s. 9 מרושם). Hif. הִכְוָה same. Neg. VII, 4 וה׳ את המחיה if one cauterized the cicatrizing spot. Pi. כִּייָּה same. Num. R. l. c. הוליכה … וכי׳ אותה he took her to the veterinary surgeon, and he cauterized her. Nif. נִכְוֶה to be burnt; to be cauterized. B. Bath.75a כל אחד וא׳ נִכְוָה חופתו מחופתוכ׳ Ms. M. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) each mans tent will be stained by fire from his neighbors tent. Lev. R. l. c. נִכְוֵית, v. supra. Num. R. l. c. ממה שנִכְוֵת אמו because his mother had been cauterized. Sabb.30b; Pes.117a תִּכָּוֶינָה (his lips) be burnt. Tosef.Ḥag.II, 6 היטה לכאן וניכ׳ בארו … ונכווה בשלג if he deviates this way, he will be burnt by the fire, if that way, he will be frost-bitten; (Ab. dR. N. ch. 28 לוקה בצינה).
